Annual Letter from the Executive Director
Since our founding, the FMF has pursued a singular mission: advancing frontier AI safety and security by identifying best practices and standards, supporting scientific progress, and facilitating information-sharing.
I'm proud to share that we've made significant progress over the past year across each of those mandates. By working closely with our member firms and external partners, we've:
Advanced best practices. The organization has been instrumental in developing frontier AI frameworks, described as "a new risk management instrument for the most severe risks from the most advanced AI models." The technical report series represents the most thorough resource available for implementing frontier AI risk management.
Supported science and research. Through a partnership with the AI Safety Fund, the organization has distributed over $10 million in funding for advanced research and methodologies. This includes novel safety assessments such as the Virology Capability Test.
Facilitated information-sharing. The organization created "a first-of-its-kind information-sharing agreement" focused on vulnerabilities, threats, and concerning capabilities specific to frontier AI, along with protocols for secure and responsible information exchange.
The letter expresses gratitude to contributors and external partners from industry, academia, civil society, and government sectors. It emphasizes the organization's commitment to expanding this impact, noting that collaborative efforts across frontier AI developers will become increasingly vital as development accelerates. The letter concludes by reaffirming the commitment to ensuring frontier AI's safe and secure future.
